INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO GET COVERAGE FOR HOTEL QUARANTINE COSTS FROM TOP UK UNIVERSITIES

Some UK universities have come forward to help international students travelling abroad during the pandemic. They have stated that they will cover the mandatory hotel quarantine costs for new and returning students foreign landing from red-list countries. Some HEIs have announced coverage of up to £1,750 for the hotel stay and up to £150 for Covid-19 tests.

RELIEF FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AS QUARANTINE REQUIREMENTS WAIVED FOR FULLY-VACCINATED ONES

International students flying to Canada got good news as the country no longer requires the fully-vaccinated ones to take a COVID-19 test or quarantine upon arrival. The new rule is effective starting July 5. Students need to validate that they have already received two doses of an approved vaccine to be eligible. The Canadian government has currently approved four vaccines, including Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen, and AstraZeneca.

2U TAKES OVER ORIGINAL MOOC PLATFORM EDX

In a recent announcement, the leading ed-tech company 2U states that it has acquired edX. The acquisition of this renowned education marketplace and online learning platform is a major event in the online learning space. 2U will pay $800m in cash to acquire all of edX’s assets. The new merger will reach more than 50 million learners across the globe, offer over 3,500 digital programs, and serve more than 230 partners.

RETURN OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO AUSTRALIA UNDER THREAT ONCE AGAIN

The impending initiatives by the Australian state governments to bring international students back are under threat once again. The situation looks grim as Prime Minister Scott Morrison has decided to cut the number of Australians permitted to return home to half. Australia’s reputation as a study abroad destination may take a massive blow after yet another aborted plan. The universities and colleges will also face a far-reaching impact.

‘INNOVATION AMBASSADOR PROGRAM’ BY CBSE TO PROMOTE MENTORING QUALITIES

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will collaborate with the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to launch the online Innovation Ambassador programme for training teachers. Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will do the honours on July 16. The programme will foster mentoring skills in teachers to enable them to guide students with innovative ideas.

ATTRACTIVE STUDY BUDDY PROGRAMME BY THOMAS COOK INDIA’S FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Thomas Cook (India) Limited has recently launched its Study Buddy programme to capture the attention of the high-growth international education segment in the country. The programme entails several attractive offers on student remittances until September 30, 2021. Students can avail of these offers across the omnichannel touchpoints of the company all over India.

16 PROGRAMMES ACCOUNT FOR A WHOPPING 80.3% OF INDIAN INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Recent data released by the Indian government stated that only 16 types of programmes across the country account for 80.3% of international student enrolments here. B Tech courses stand first in line, with nearly 20% of students enrolling in them. The number of international students in the 2019/20 academic year was 49,348, just slightly more than 47,427 in the previous year.

HOUSING ON CAMPUS TO BE RETAINED FOR NTU INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has permitted international students currently residing on-campus to retain their places. The decision came on an exceptional basis, considering that it will not be easy for the students to get off-campus housing options due to COVID-19. The university announced it after an uproar on the imposition of a hostel quota for students.
