SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

The Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships offered by the United States – India Educational Foundation are designed for Indian scholars who are registered for a PhD at an Indian institution. These fellowships are for pre-doctoral level research offered for Indian citizens to pursue their doctoral research. Interested applicants can apply for the scholarship before the deadline and the applicant will be affiliated to one U.S. host institution for his/her grant.

Subject of Study: Agricultural Sciences; Anthropology; Bioengineering; Chemistry; Computer Science (including, but not limited to, cybersecurity, digital economy, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data analytics); Economics; Education Policy and Planning; Energy Studies; Geography (including GIS and Geology); History; Language and Literature; Materials Science (with emphasis on environmental applications); Mathematical Sciences; Neuroscience; Performing Arts; Physics; Political Science (including, but not limited to, International Security and Strategic Studies); Public Health; Public Policy; Sociology; Urban and Regional Planning (with emphasis on smart cities and waste management); Visual Arts; and Women’s and Gender Studies.

Duration of the Scholarship: The duration of the scholarship id for six to nine months

Students selected for Fullbright-Nehru doctoral research fellowships offered by USIEF are benefited with

  2. Monthly stipend
  3. Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges per U.S. Government guidelines
  4. Round-trip economy class air travel
  5. applicable allowances and modest affiliation fees, if any

APPLICATION DETAILS

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible to apply for the doctoral research fellowships applicants has to

  1. Check the General Prerequisites to check the eligibility criteria.
  2. The applicant should have done adequate research in the relevant field, especially in the identification of resources in India and the U.S.
  3. Applicant must be registered for Ph.D. at an Indian institution on or before November 2, 2020. On the online application form, one of the recommendation letters must be from the Ph.D. supervisor
  4. This grant is intended for Ph.D. students to conduct research essential to their dissertations/thesis. Therefore, the expected Ph.D. thesis submission date should atleast be three months after the Fulbright-Nehru grant end date
  5. The applicant must upload a copy of original published/presented paper or extracts from the Masters’/M.Phil. thesis on the online application form (not exceeding 20 pages).

How to apply:

  1. Applicants must submit an online application form.
  2. It is important to read the application instructions before applying to the fellowship.
  3. Applicants must refer to the FNDR Applicant checklist provided on the official website before submitting the scholarship.
  4. Applicants must complete FNDR Applicant Annexure and FNDR Employer’s Endorsement Form (Please download from the official website) and upload on the online application form.

Assessment Process:

Field-specific experts review applications to short-list candidates in early August 2021 and USIEF informs the applicants about the review outcome in early September 2021. Interviews will be held for the shortlisted candidates and USIEF notifies finalists in March/April 2022.
