SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

The University of Queensland, Australia is offering PhD scholarships in international/global wildlife ecology and conservation for eligible students and the applications for the academic year 2021 are open. This project seeks to understand GLOBAL patterns in how wildlife communities are changing due to a variety of disturbances, such as fragmentation and loss of apex predators. The PhD student will address these questions using a new global database of camera trapping studies.

Duration of the Scholarship: The duration of the scholarship is 3 years with the possibility of two 6-month extensions

The PhD scholarship offered by the university is a Living stipend scholarship and benefits the selected candidates with $28,597 per annum.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible to apply for the higher degree by research scholarships offered by the university of Queensland, applicants must meet the required eligibility criteria.

  1. This scholarship is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and international students who are currently in Australia at the time of application and commencement.
  2. Applicants must meet all the academic entry requirements.
  3. Applicants must meet the required English language requirements.
  4. You need to demonstrate some research experience to be accepted into a PhD. If you can show you have planned and written a research project with some independence, you have enough experience to apply.
  5. Many departments will have additional entry requirements and may request documents to support your application, such as a research proposal. You should discuss these additional requirements with your potential thesis supervisor.

Academic entry requirements:

You have to prove you are prepared for PhD study. You do this by showing you:

  1. have completed some research experience
  2. have completed an approved university degree and
  3. can meet the English language requirements.

Approved degrees

 An approved degree needs to be:

  1. in an area relevant to your proposed PhD project and
  2. completed no more than 10 years ago.

You need one of the following approved degrees to apply for a PhD:

  1. Master of Philosophy (or another research master’s degree); or
  2. Bachelor’s degree from an approved university with at least honours class IIA or equivalent; or
  3. Coursework master’s degree with an overall grade point average of 5.65 on the 7-point UQ scale which includes relevant research experience, approved by the dean; or
  4. Postgraduate degree (at least one year full-time or equivalent) with an overall grade point average of 5 on the 7-point UQ scale, together with demonstrated research experience equivalent to honours class IIA will be considered on a case-by-case basis; or
  5. Bachelor’s degree plus at least 2 years of relevant research experience, including research publications.

  4. Your application can only be assessed once your referees have responded to us, and all outstanding documents and school/institute endorsements have been received.

  3. Degree certificate imprinted with a university seal and stating the name of your qualification and areas of study.
  4. English language documents
  5. Passport
  6. References/letters of recommendation
  7. Other documents such as evidence of change of name, proof of citizenship, previous research program information.

Assessment Process:

Applications will be judged on a competitive basis taking into account the applicant’s previous academic record, publication record, honours and awards, and employment history.

The applicant will demonstrate academic achievement in the field/s of ecology and the potential for scholastic success. A background or knowledge of statistics is highly desirable.
