According to the Universities UK (UUK), university students could lose study abroad opportunities unless the Government works on visa reform. EU exchange students are already moving from year-long placements at universities in the UK to shorter placements. Many have even opted out of studying in the country altogether. With fewer exchange students, opportunities for outbound visits could be lost.

QUARTER OF A MILLION STUDENTS OFF SCHOOL IN ENGLAND DUE TO THE NEW WAVE OF COVID

The new wave of COVID has sent a quarter of a million students in England off school as chaos prevails across the country. Likewise, half of the staff are also off in some schools as they struggle to manage things in the last week of term. Parents are not in favour of sending kids to school because of the growing fear of the Omicron variant.

WELSH UNIVERSITIES WITNESS A19% INCREASE IN NON-EU ACCEPTANCES

Wales has emerged as a leading destination for international students, with a 19% increase in numbers accepting places in Welsh universities in one year. According to UCAS statistics, 1,875 undergraduate international students from non-EU countries accepted places at Welsh universities in the 2021 admission cycle. The number is equivalent to a 19% uptick from 2020.

According to the latest data by Immigration New Zealand, universities in the country have witnessed a steep decline of 62% in the number of international students taking up higher studies. Statistics show that the country has19,191 international students right now, which is only a fraction of 51,580 in April last year.

31% OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS THINK THEY CAN NEVER PAY OFF THEIR UNIVERSITY DEBT

A survey by Chegg, an American education technology company, stated that 31 percent of international students think they will never be able to pay off their student loans. The survey included 16,839 undergraduate students from 21 countries like the US, Canada, the UK, Brazil, Australia, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Turkey, India, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Germany, Japan, Kenya, France, Italy, Malaysia, China, Russia, and South Korea.

AICPA OPENS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS WORTH NEARLY $1MILLION

The American Institute of CPAs has opened scholarship applications for nearly $1million for supporting future CPAs and accounting candidates. The scholarships are available for high school, college, and graduate students. Candidates can apply for most scholarships by March 1, 2022.

The number of international students in Australia has witnessed a sharp decline as the prolonged border closure kept them out for almost two years. According to reports, the UK has gained with students flocking to it as a popular study abroad alternative. The country has captured a significant share of Indian students, one of the primary markets for the Australian international education landscape.

JHARKHAND  TO GET A SKILL DEVELOPMENT UNIVERSITY

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced that the state will soon get a Skill Development University to provide employment-oriented quality education for the residents. The state government aspires to bring a qualitative reform in its education system, stated the Chief Minister at a Higher and Technical Education department review meeting.

`I-SKILL` INITIATIVE LAUNCHED BY IIT PALAKKAD TECHNOLOGY IHUB FOUNDATION
