PM MODI TO LAUNCH INDIAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ISL) DICTIONARY

PM Modi will launch the Indian Sign Language (ISL) dictionary this week as part of the ‘Shikshak Parv’. The dictionary has 10,000 words, along with talking books for the visually challenged. The objective of the initiative is to address the communication barriers between the hearing and deaf communities. The dictionary has terms of everyday use and specialised ones from academic, legal, medical, and technical fields.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT BY NTA SAYS CBSE PRIVATE, PATRACHAR, AND COMPARTMENT STUDENTS CAN SIT FOR NEET EXAM BEFORE RESULTS

A major update came for NEET-UG 2021 candidates, as the National Testing Agency announced that CBSE private, patrachar, and compartment students can sit for the medical entrance exam before their results are declared. The decision came in response to pleas at the Supreme Court. The exam is scheduled to be held on September 12.

IISC IS INDIA’S BEST INSTITUTE, BUT NO INDIAN VARSITY MAKES IN TOP 300 LIST

According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, IISc Bangalore maintains its position as the best-ranked institution. However, it sits in the 301-350 band, implying that no Indian varsity is among the top 300 in the world. IIT Ropar is in the top 351-400 bracket and IIT Indore sits in the 401-450 bracket. The University of Oxford leads the list for the sixth consecutive year.

CHARTER FLIGHT FROM CHINA TO THE UK SELLS OUT IN 30 MINUTES

As Chinese students try to reach university campuses in the UK, there is a massive surge in demand for charter flights from Hong Kong. An international education organisation chartering such flights has reported that one of these flights sold out in only 30 minutes. The reason for the boom is that direct flights from mainland China stand cancelled due to concerns around Covid-19.

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION SHORTAGES IN NETHERLANDS TO DOUBLE BY 2024-25

A recent study by Kences, a Netherlands-based knowledge centre for student housing has stated that student accommodation shortages in the country will double by 2024-25. The study showed that nearly 22,000 students were affected by housing shortages last year, and the number is predicted to reach at least 50,000 by 2024-25.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CAMPUS IS BRIMMING WITH STUDENTS AND FANS AGAIN

The flagship campus of the University of Minnesota came roaring back to life as thousands of students stepped in last week. They have hopes that the fall semester this year will be a lot better than the last. The air was charged up with excitement as returning and new students came back to the Twin Cities campus. They participated in school spirit events and had a great time watch a football game between the Gophers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARE IN A FIX WITH STANFORD’S VACCINE MANDATE COMPLIANCE

Stanford is gearing up to get undergraduate students back for offline classes this fall. But these students will have to be fully vaccinated before arrival. They have to submit vaccination records or apply for a temporary extension by July 23. Unvaccinated students coming from abroad will have to arrive seven days before in-person activities for complying with entry testing, a period of restricted activity, and vaccination.

BEIJING- 3 CHINESE STUDENTS DEPORTED FROM US

According to the Chinese foreign ministry, three Chinese students have been deported by the US Customs and Border Control at Houston airport.  The move came when the authorities found the photos of these students receiving military instruction training on their phones. They were allegedly suspected of being military-affiliated or government-funded, leading to action against them.

100 TVET SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED BY CHINA TO EAST AFRICA

The Chinese government has 100 TVET scholarships for qualified tutors across the East African region. These professionals are a part of Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutes in this region. These five-year scholarships will support the beneficiaries to pursue postgraduate studies in top universities and technical colleges in China. The initial 35 scholarships have gone to beneficiaries from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania in 2020-21.
