WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKING 2023- WHERE DOES INDIA STAND

The announcement of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023 brought some great news for Indian universities. This year, 75 Indian institutes have made it to the list, increasing from 56 in 2020 and 31 in 2017. Additionally, India is the 6th most represented country on the list. The prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is included in the 251-300 band, getting the position for its performance score for research and teaching. TOP INDIAN UNIVERSITIES IN THE TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION RANKING 2023

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings cover a total of 1,799 best universities across 104 countries and regions. It makes them the most diverse rankings to date. The performance indicators used to measure an institution’s performance by THE rankings span research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. These are the Indian institutions in the 2023 list-

  • Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru
    • JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysore
    • Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences, Solan
    • Alagappa University, Karaikudi
    • Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam
    • Indian Institute of Technology Ropar
    • International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad
    • Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi
    • Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Kuthambakkam
    • Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi

The ranking has been boycotted by most IITs since the last three years because of transparency concerns.

TOP INDIAN UNIVERSITIES IN THE QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKING 2023

Besides the Times Higher Education ranking, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is another system to reckon with. QS is a leading global career and education network that uses comparative data collection and analysis measures to highlight institutions’ strengths. The parameters it considers include Academic Reputation (40%), Faculty/Student Ratio (20%), Employer Reputation (10%), Citations per faculty (20%), International Student Ratio (5%), and International Faculty Ratio (5%).
