PM eVIDYA PROGRAMME: INDIA

The final tranche of the Rs 20 lakh crore economic package announced by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman included the centre immediately launching a tech-driven education initiative under the PM eVIDYA Programme.

PM e-VIDYA Programme is a multi-mode-access to digital education programme in India. One of the major steps taken by the Government of India to boost the Indian education system involves several components including:

DIKSHA – One nation, One digital platform

Launching one digital platform for education in schools across all the states and union territories in India. It also includes e-content and QR coded Energized Textbooks for all grades.

TV CHANNEL – One class, One channel

Launching one earmarked TV channel per class from 1 to 12. Multiple digital channels including radio, community radios and podcasts will be used extensively to support the cause of digital education.

“The government has launched Swayam Prabha DTH channels to support and reach those who do not have access to the internet, now 12 more channels will be added,” Sitharaman said.

E-CONTENT

Special e-content will also be launched for visually and hearing-impaired people.

UNIVERSITIES

The top 100 universities will be permitted to automatically start online courses by May 30, 2020.

“To provide enhanced learning opportunities to 3.7 crore students in higher education and expand e-learning by liberalizing open, distance, and online education regulatory framework, the top 100 universities will start online courses. Online components in conventional Universities and ODL programmes will also be raised from 20% to 40%,” the Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

MANODARPAN

An initiative for providing psychological support to students, teachers and families for their mental health and emotional well-being to be launched immediately.

NEW FRAMEWORK

A new National Curriculum and Pedagogical framework for schools, early childhood, and teachers that will be launched and integrated with the global and 21st-century skill requirements.

FOUNDATIONAL LITERACY & NUMERACY MISSION

National Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Mission will be launched by December 2020 to ensure every child attains learning levels and outcomes in grade 5 by 2025.
