SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Description:

MEXT scholarship is a fully funded famous scholarship program offered by the Japanese government. This scholarship is available to all countries that have diplomatic relations with Japan. For the selected candidates, the Japanese Government will cover all the expenses during the scholarship period. Applications for MEXT Japanese scholarships for 2022 intake for undergraduate level are open now and interested candidates can apply by submitting the application form.

Number of Awards: Up to 15 (Those selected applicants after the successful first screening, will proceed to world-wide final screening by MEXT).

Duration of the Scholarship:

A grantee who studies at a preparatory educational institution prior to enrolling in a university:
From April 2022 to March 2027 (Including one-year preparatory intensive courses of the Japanese language and other subjects, which are necessary for the preparation to proceed to the university.)
For a scholarship grantee majoring in a six-year course in pharmacy, the scholarship period will be seven years, until March 2028.
A grantee who enrolls directly in a university, without the preparatory intensive courses (direct placement):
Four years (or six years for the one majoring in a six-year course in pharmacy). The scholarship period will start from the time of enrolment in the university, which the university designates.

Non-regular students: The scholarship period for Japanese Government Scholarships offered for research students will last from April, September or October 2022 until the end of March 2024.

Regular students: Regardless of the date of arrival, the scholarship period shall be the necessary period for the completion of the respective regular course

Benefits:

The MEXT Japanese scholarships are fully funded scholarships and international students interested to study in Japan can apply for the undergraduate scholarships.

  1. Selected applicants will be offered a scholarship amount of 117,000 yen (Approx. Rs.82,978) per month to pursue their undergraduate course.
  2. A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen per month will be added to the monthly scholarship amount for the grantees studying or conducting research in specially designated regions
  3. Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by MEXT.
  4. Economy class round trip airfare travel expenses will be covered.

APPLICATION DETAILS

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Have the nationality of one of the countries that have a diplomatic relation with Japan.
  2. Must be born on or after 2 April, 1997
  3. Must satisfy any one of the required academic requirements as mentioned in the application guidelines.
  4. Must be willing to learn Japanese language.
  5. Must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician.

To apply for the Japanese Government scholarships offered for research students have to submit the required documents and forms within the deadline to the addresses mentioned in the official website.

  1. Application Form
  2. Direct Placement Preference Form (If applicable)
  3. Academic transcript(s) for all school years of school/university attended
  4. Certificate(s) of graduation of school/university attended
  5. Recommendation letter from either a class teacher or principal of last school attended
  6. Medical certificate
  7. Certificate of enrollment
  8. Certificate of university enrollment qualification examination
  9. Certificate of language proficiency

Assessment Process:

First screening of the applicants will be done by Japanese diplomatic mission based on the submitted application documents, written academic examinations and interviews.

Applicants who have passed the First Screening will be recommended to MEXT. MEXT will then conduct the Second Screening of the recommended applicants and decide the scholarship grantees.

Selected applicants will be informed about the final result by the end of January 2022.

ABOUT JAPANESE GOVERNMENT MEXT SCHOLARSHIPS

The Japanese Government announced the fully funded MEXT Japanese scholarships for 2022 and candidates who plan to study undergraduate programs in Japan can apply for this scholarship within the deadline. This is the largest scholarship program where the Japanese Government will cover all the expenses from tuition fees to airfare expenses.

MEXT Scholarship will be granted to those who are willing to contribute to mutual understanding between Japan and their home country by participating in activities at schools and communities during their study in Japan while contributing to the internationalization of Japan. Selected candidates can study undergraduate courses in Japanese Universities.
