AMERICANS HAVE MIXED VIEWS ON RECRUITMENT OF FOREIGN STUDENT

Even as most Americans are likely to favour the impact that foreign students have on higher education and society in the country, they have mixed views when it comes to their recruitment. According to a recent survey, only 33% of the participants stated that the US should go out of its way to address the significant decrease in international student numbers due to the pandemic.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO GET MANDATORY VACCINATION IN THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA

The University of California will have international students vaccinated mandatorily ahead of the fall semester of 2021. A new policy recommends that every international student arriving at the university must get a WHO-approved vaccine on priority. The policy, however, will be finalised after approval for these COVID-19 vaccines by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

CUTTING-EDGE COURSES LAUNCHED BY GBU TO ATTRACT FOREIGN STUDENTS

Gautam Buddha University in Noida is all set to attract international students with 21 new cutting-edge courses in diverse domains during the 2021-22 session. As a part of this initiative, the university has also collaborated with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to extend the international student outreach. It has already got more than 260 applications from students across 40 countries. 

SECOND WAVE OF THE PANDEMIC HITS THE STUDY-ABROAD PLANS OF INDIAN STUDENTS HARD

As India battles with the second wave of the COVID pandemic, the study abroad plans of students here have taken a major blow. The surge has led to many countries, including the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, closing their borders to Indian travellers, which means that students have grim chances of getting into international universities in the upcoming academic sessions.

SCHOOL IN SINGAPORE GO REMOTE TO CURB THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS AMONG KIDS

Singapore will discontinue school classes amid a recent increase in unlinked cases of coronavirus. The action comes when the government is still working on plans for the vaccination of children. The classes at the primary, secondary, junior college, and even some pre-university levels will move to home-based learning, tentatively from May 19 to May 28, to curb the outbreak.

OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION BY PAKISTAN’S HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION (HEC)

Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) plans to fund higher education overseas for outstanding Pakistani/AJK nationals under the Overseas Scholarships 2022. The scholarships are meant for students pursuing MS/MPhil in Engineering Technology and for Ph.D. in selected fields. They will be given in the Spring/Fall (2022) session for HEC-identified foreign universities abroad.
