CBSE GOES PAPERLESS AND SECURES RESULTS BY ADOPTING BLOCKCHAIN

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken an innovative measure by adopting Blockchain technology to go paperless and secure the board results with cryptographic security. It is yet another technology initiative by the board after it took up Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to streamline the affiliation systems.

PARENTS DEMAND DELHI SCHOOLS SHOULD REOPEN FOR PRIMARY AND 6-8 STUDENTS

Parents and school teachers in Delhi are demanding the resumption of normal classes by schools for the primary section and classes 6-8 students. They staged a protest outside the residence of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal after the government stated its intention to analyse the current situation after resuming school for the students of Classes 9-12. Parents validate their demands by saying that the city has A low positivity rate and no positive cases from any school.

INDIAN STUDENTS TO SPEND $75-85 BILLION PER YEAR ON EDUCATION ABROAD BY 2024

A report ‘Higher Education Abroad’ by RedSeer suggests that 1.8 million students from India are expected to go abroad by 2024 and they will spend a whopping $75-85 billion per year on overseas education. The growth in the number of students opting for higher education abroad has outpaced the growth in the number of domestic students by six times during the last three years.

UK URGED TO GIVE SHELTER TO THE AFGHAN WOMEN’S FOOTBALL SQUAD

After the situation turning from bad to worse in Afghanistan, the UK government is being urged to resettle the players from Afghanistan’s women’s football team. The group of 35 young female players fled the Taliban along with their households and football coaches. They are currently in Pakistan with  30-day visas and will have to return to their home country unless a third nation accepts them by the deadline.

APPLICATIONS FROM INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS RISE IN FINLAND

According to the Finnish Immigration Service, Finland has witnessed a significant increase in the applications by international students looking forward to studying in the country’s universities this year. The number of applications for residence permits for studies in the country has gone up from 1,756 in 2020 to a whopping 4,233 between January and August 2021.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN IRELAND STRUGGLE WITH HOUSING WOES

International students in Ireland are struggling with housing woes due to the lack of accommodation in the country. Local media reports state that the country is facing a shortage of housing right now, and students are bearing the brunt of the situation. The only option they have is to stay at hotels, which can easily burn a hole in their wallets. A week’s costing at a hotel is the same as they have to spend for a month in student accommodation.

US EDUCATION STAKEHOLDERS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT VISA INTERVIEW WAIVERS AND TRAVEL REOPENING

Stakeholders in the US educational sector are optimistic about the upcoming interview waivers  for some student visa applicants. Further, the impending travel relaxation to the US from the UK and the EU from November is a positive step for them. Fully vaccinated travellers from the UK and EU will be allowed to fly to the US from early November, and it will be favourable for the sector.

LARGEST-EVER FIRST-YEAR CLASS ADMITTED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN

According to a recent report by the University of Texas at Austin, it has got record highs of the number of enrolments this year in its undergraduate programmed and other categories. The university has enrolled over 9000 students in the undergraduate programmes this session, and the last recorded high was 8,960 in 2018.  The university boasts of a reputation for enabling students to graduate on time.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN CANADA FORCED TO DEFER TO JANUARY 2022

International students aspiring to study in Canada have been forced to defer places to Canadian universities. They will have to study online after not getting their study permits processed on time to fly to the country for the next semester. IRCC told students earlier this year that the applications filed by May 15 will be processed by August 6, 2021. But many are still waiting for the process to close.

AVERAGE INTERNATIONAL TUITION IN CANADA INCREASES 4.9%

According to Statistics Canada, the average tuition fees for international students pursuing undergraduate courses at Canadian universities has increased by 4.9% in 2021/22. The current cost is now $33,623, which signifies a significant increase compared to the last year. International students in the country have to pay thrice as much as their Canadian  counterparts.  

AUSTRALIA

NSW WILL HAVE 250 STUDENTS BACK EVERY FORTNIGHT FROM DECEMBER

A Study NSW Pilot Plan to be run by New South Wales will bring some 500 international students to the state in December. The government has given a nod to allow international students to fly in on chartered flights, which they will have to pay for by themselves. These students will have to quarantine for 14 days on arrival at a building managed by accommodation provider Scape.
